Our Story

We are Parsons Land and Cattle. Colton started this company after leaving the military with the goal of one day being a full time farmer. His wife, Shelly, is a veterinarian who is along for the ride and runs the behind the scenes business. We believe that a strong rural community is the backbone of America. Growing up in southeastern Pennsylvania, we watched our rural community transform from a tight nit farming community into housing developments. As first generation farmers, we knew we would not be able to have a successful farm business doing things the “traditional way”.

We raise 100% grass fed and finished beef -- back to the roots of how cows evolved. Our cows are outside 365 days a year using techniques that have shown to improve the health of the land, animals, and people. We think about this generation but also those that will come after us.  Our cattle graze on our pastures and in the winter when necessary are supplemented with hay grown by our neighbors. We do not feed grains of any sort, use pesticides or chemical fertilizers, and we do not use hormones, wormers, or antibiotics in any of the cattle we sell.

We were fortunate enough to purchase our forever farm in June of 2024. At that time it was strictly bare land with no home. With grit and determination forged from eight years in Navel Special Warfare, Colton moved up to the property, living in a tent and building our home with the help of some very good friends. We are blessed to be the care takers of our picturesque 140 acre farm and are doing our best to improve the landscape for the benefit of our animals, as well as our local wildlife.

Our standard is to have maximum integrity throughout every phase of our operation in order to do the best we can for our animals, our environment, and our customers. We are a farm that welcomes guests and want individuals to have full confidence in what they are purchasing. We are a first generation farm that hopes to inspire others to know where their food comes from, eat locally, get involved, and maybe develop more farmers.

Thank you for your interest in our farm!

Our Practices

  • Little to no artificial pesticides, fertilizers, or additives.
    • What this means -- We do not spray our fields with any chemicals. We do not apply artificial fly spray (insecticide), we make an essential oil mix to spray on the cows if very necessary.
    • Why it is limit and not NO -- We buy in hay and while we try to make sure those products meet our same ideals, it is not always a guarantee.
    • So our guarantee is that we try our very best to limit anything artificial going into the cows or the ground.
  • Cows are outside and moved to new grass at least daily during the growing season.
    • Why is this important?!
      • This helps with pest control, is better for the soil, and allows are cows to thrive on just grass!
      • We do not feed our cows grain, ever! They may sometimes eat "grains" by eating seed heads on grasses or cover crops but those are the types of grains cows would eat without any human involvement.
  • Our cows receive veterinary care if needed. If any antibiotics are used (which we haven't had to do yet), then they do not enter our normal selling herd.
    • *Cows given antibiotics are federally required to go through withdrawal periods before time of slaughter to insure there are no antibiotics in the meat. But understanding people's concern, we have recognized these animals would be for our consumption only or clearly notated on the store.
  • If a cow is entering the meat production part of the business, they are slaughtered typically around 2 years old. This is slightly older than conventional beef, largely due to not feeding them grain. We then take our cattle to a small processing plant that is within a couple hours to limit their stress as much as possible.
    • We finish our cows on GRASS -- not hay! This is why we seasonally slaughter. When the grass is growing the best (spring and fall), it has the most nutrition and allows us to produce the best quality beef.
    • *We make this clarification as some larger companies are claiming to be 100% grass fed by finishing cows on hay. I promise it makes a large difference!*
